HUTAN MANGROVE (MANGROVE FOREST)

Mangrove forest both outside and inside the forest area is a coastal green belt that has a good variety of ecological functions and other functions. Brackish mangrove forest is a forest with forest type is mainly grown in alluvial soil found along the beach or around the mouth of the river which is influenced by tides, and is characterized by tree species: Avicenia (fire-fire), sounetaria (Prapat) , Rhizophora (mangrove), brugeria, Ceriops, lummitseri, xylocarpus and Nypa (palm).
The atmosphere of mangrove that is the tropical climate, lush forests, calm sea and the mud. Brackish forests can also grow well in areas of less rainfall, on average below 1500 mm / yr. Key growth of mangrove / brackish forest in Indonesia is the calm water.
Given the mangrove forest is one that has its own nature and ecosystem, which is the mangrove forests of tropical forest alive and growing along the muddy shore, or clay, or peat, or sand and sea water flooded all day on a regular basis and have the appropriate vegetation zones with the growth. Components animals mostly invertebrates (invertebrates). Most of the biota is only found in the mangrove ecosystem and there is also a small part in other ecosystems.
While the definition of the coastal region is an area of the mainland side of the beach up to the limit of high tide line or at least 600 meters measured from the point of lowest tides. Coastal forests are forest areas that have dry areas on the beach, not affected the climate, the soil is dry, muddy and rocky and located above the highest tide line.
The function of mangrove forests has two functions, among others:
a. Economic Functions
For domestic purposes such as firewood, charcoal, building materials and medicines. For the industry: the raw material of paper, textiles, cosmetics, leather tanning and dyeing. as an ecosystem where fish seed producers, larva, shrimp, crab, oysters, shellfish, honey and bird eggs. as a place where tourism and research.
b. Ecological Function / Protection
As a protective beach, retaining abrasion, windbreaks storm, flood. as the accelerating expansion of the beach, because of siltation. as to prevent sea water intrusion into the mainland, increasing function of the water, absorbing pollutants from industrial waste and household waste. as air conditioners, producing oxygen and so on.
Recognizing the importance of mangrove forests to people's lives, either directly or indirectly, then these natural resources must be maintained .
